Target is undoubtedly among the most popular retail shop in the united States, and even in the world .They are also popular when it comes to selling children’s clothing, with different styles and their prices are very decent.
But there might be instances that parents would have to return children’s items for reasons, it could be because of size, or maybe the cloth got damaged, etc…, this is where Target’s kid clothes return policy becomes important.
Like I’d always say in most of my articles regarding Target, they have a customer-friendly return policy that makes it easy for customer item within a specific time frame. Time Frame for Returning Kid Clothes to Target
Because Target care about kids and they want to ensure that parent can return an item that don’t fit or meet their expectations, they’ve made their return policy for kids really flexible. The standard window time to return items that are in the category of clothing is 90, and this include kids’ clothes
However, there are exception to the 90 days return window. Target offer extended return time for some certain kind of customers, and they are:
1. Target Circle™ members: If you are a Target Circle™ members, your return window is extended to 120 days for kid clothes.
2. RedCard™ holders: The second is for RedCard holders. If you’re a RedCard holder, you also have 120 days to make a return for kid clothes.
3. Target-owned brands: If a customer buys from any of the Target-owned brands(e.g., Cat & Jack, Cloud Island, and Art Class), and for some reason the customer isn’t satisfied with the item, the Customers can return these items within one year of purchase. I’m not going to lie, this is probably the best return policies for children’s clothing
Always make sure you have your original receipt or any proof of purchase when you want to return an item, this will make the process easier and even faster.
Conditions for Returning Kid Clothes
Below are the conditions for returning a kid cloths:
1. Clothes Must Be Unworn and Unwashed
One of the conditions to return any kid cloth to Target is that they most be in their original condition. What this means is that the cloths should not be worn, washed and it most be free from stains or damage.
If for any reason the cloth isn’t in its original form, then it might not be accepted, unless the cloth was defective or damaged at the point of purchase.
Also, ensure you have the tags attached to the cloth. This could increase the chances of it been accepted.
2. Keep the Receipt or Proof of Purchase
Another condition is that customer should have receipt or proof of purchase when initiating a return, this will make the whole the process easier and faster. But in a situation that the receipt is lost, Target might still be able to confirm purchase purchase by using payment method used (RedCard, credit card, debit card, or Target Circle account)
In a situation that proof of purchase can’t be confirmed, Target may only issued as store credit to the customer.
3. Defective or Damaged Items Can Be Returned
If a customer bought a kid cloth from Target, and it is damaged, defected or maybe it has a manufacturer’s flaw, they can return the item even if it has been worn.
Like i have said before, Target-owned brands like Cat & Jack gives customer a one year window to make a return if for some reason they are not satisfied with the item.
Refund and Exchange Options for Kid Clothes at Target
Below are some refund and exchange options for kids at Target:
1. Refund Based on Original Payment Method
If you bought a kid clothes at Target, and you return the item back for any reason, refunds will be made using the original payment method.
What this means is that, if you paid with a card, the money will be sent to the card, if it is with PayPal, the money will be sent to PayPal.
If the customer made Cash payments, then the customer gets a cash refund. If for any reason the original payment is not available, Target may decide to issue the customer store credit on a Target GiftCard
2. Exchange for a Different Size or Color
In a situation that a customer purchased a kid’s clothes and it doesn’t fit or maybe the color isn’t right, parent may decide to go for exchange, instead of a refund.
Target will allow customer to exchange kids clothes in different size or color. It is much easier to exchange item in-store. But in a situation that the desired item is out of stock, then the customer can ask for a refund instead.
3. Processing Time for Refunds
When customer return using the In-store process, returns are processed immediately. in other word, this process is faster. If it is a refund to a credit or debit card , that could take up to 1–5 business days for it to reflect in the account.
As for Online returns, it takes a bit longer, This is because they would have to to receive and inspect the item first. So the moment Target check everything and they see it’s okay, customer get a refund within 5–7 business days.
4. Store Credit for Returns Without a Receipt
If a customer doesn’t have a receipt, and they make a return, Target may decide to give them store credit in the form of a merchandise return card.
Customer can use this store credit for in-store purchases only. But if the customer made the purchase with RedCard, credit, or debit card, Target might be able to confirm the purchase in their system, and the customer will get a refund.
In-Store Return Process for Kid Clothes at Target
Below are the process for returning cloths for kid cloth at Target:
1. Gather the Items and Receipt: Make sure the item are not worn, are unwashed and they have the original tags attached before you head to the store.
Also, don’t forget to bring your receipt, order confirmation or maybe the card you used when making payment. From my experience, this will make the whole process easier.
2. Visit the Guest Services Desk: Now the next step is to go to any Target store. When you do that, locate the the Guest Services desk, it is usually located near the entrance. When you get there, there will be people ready to assist you.
3. Verification and Refund Processing: Your receipt will be scanned by a store associate. The person will also check the purchase using the payment method.
If after the whole process of checking and your refund is approved, then refund will be sent to original payment method. In a situation that the receipt is missing or not available, then Target may decide to give the customer store credit on a Target GiftCard
4. Exchange Option: Customers can decide to go for exchange if what is needed is a different size or color of the same product. This all depends on weather the item is available or not. If the item is out if of stock, then a refund will be the best option.
Returning Kid Clothes to Target by Mail
To Return a kid Cloth to Target by mail, follow the following process:
1. Start the Return Online: The first step is to login to your Target account. Now locate the Orders section and click on it. You’ll see variety of order you’ve made, choose the particular item you want to return.
2. Print the Return Label: The moment Target approves your return request, Target will give you a return label. Print it out and attach it to the package you want to return.
3. Pack the Items Securely: Make sure you pack it properly. You can put the kids clothes in sturdy package. This will help prevent the items from getting damaged at the course of shipping. If the original packaging is still available, it is advisable to use it.
4. Ship the Package: After packaging the item well, it is now time to ship it back to Target. Take the item to UPS or FedEx drop-off location.
5. Refund Processing Time: Now you just have to wait for Target to receive the item, inspect it and process refund. Like i said before, refunds will take around 5–7 business days using this method. After all have been made, you will refunded back to the original payment method.
Returning Kid Clothes to Target Without a Receipt
If for any reason your receipt got missing, or you don’t have it, Target could still process your return. If for instance you used a credit/debit card, Target RedCard, gift card, or digital payment, then the best option for to the Guest Services, they would help you with that.
If they cannot verify that you actually made a purchase or your purchase cannot be found, Target may decide to offer you refund as a Target GiftCard. This will be based on the lowest price of the item in the past 90 days. Also remember that a customer will only get a $150 per year for a return without receipt. You will also need a valid ID.
If you made purchase online, you can use your order confirmation email or packing slip as proof as proof of purchase. Target decides not to refund you, they may decide to offer an exchange for a different size or color instead.
Exceptions and Non-Returnable Kid Clothes at Target
It is true that Target’s return policy are flexible, however some there are some category of kids clothes that may not be eligible for return and they are:
1. Final Sale Items – You cannot return or exchange a Clearance or final sale kid clothes
2. Worn or Damaged Items – If the clothes you is damaged, heavily worn or even stained, you may not be able to return it However, if it is due to the manufacturer defect, you can return it.
3. Without Proof of Purchase – In a situation that Target cannot verify your purchase, and you have exhauted the $150 no-receipt return limit, your return could be rejected .
4. Customized or Personalized Items – Any kid’s clothing that has been customize in one way or another cannot be returned, unless the clothes was defected at the point of purchase.
Gift Card Purchases – If you bought it with a Target GiftCard, Target may decide to give refund as store credit
