Target’s Policy on Returning Opened Makeup Items

Target sells different variety of items, and one of them is the beauty and makeup product. So if you looking for where to get a beauty and makeup products, Target could be a good option.

But what happens in a situation that a customer purchases a beauty and makeup product and it doesn’t meet their expectation? What is the way forward? Can such item be returned to Target? This and more is what we’ll be addressing in this article. She’ll tell you everything you need to know about returning an opened makeup item and the policies.

Can You Return Opened Makeup to Target?

The answer is yes. You can return an opened makeup item to Target. However, there are certain conditions that customers must meet before the return will be possible. If a customer happens to buy a makeup product and isn’t satisfied with the item or it did not perform as expected, that customer may be eligible for a return or exchange.

The standard return time for the majority of items at Target is 90 days, including makeup items. But if it happens that the item has been used or opened, then the return may be at the store’s discretion. From my experience, if you have your receipt or any proof of payment, Target may give you a full refund or an exchange.

If you are among the Target Circle members and RedCard holders, the return window isn’t 90 days but 120 days. This provides more flexibility to customers. I’ve also noticed that Target-owned brands like Sonia Kashuk and Up&Up tend to have a more lenient return policy. They allow customers to make returns and get a refund or exchange without a receipt.

If the makeup item purchased by a customer has been heavily used or nearly empty, Target may decide to reject such an item. The customer would have to do some explaining for him or her to get a refund or exchange.

For a customer to truly understand Target’s makeup return policy, it important they follow the step below:

Follow the steps below if you don’t have a receipt:

1. Use Alternative Proof of Purchase

For customer that don’t have their receipt, you don’t need to worry, Target offer other ways of verifying your purchase. If you paid with a credit or debit card, Target may be able to retrieve your purchase history and that will be used as proof of purchase. So if you made payment with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Target RedCard, or PayPal, you fall under this category.

If you bought the item online, you can check your Target account or order confirmation email for proof of purchase. If what you used is the Target app, then a digital receipt will be stored  and easily accessed.

2. Get a Merchandise Return Card

If Target have done all they can and still can’t verify your purchase, you don’t need to worry, you could still return the item, but you won’t get a refund, only a merchandise return card.

With the merchandise return card,  you will be able to make purchase at  Target. Please take note that the card cannot be redeemed for cash and the amount on the the card is usually based on the lowest price the item has sold for recently.

If Target decides not to give you a refund, an exchange might be an option. Target may exchange the makeup for another item that has an equal or lesser value. This will be very helpful to customer that have purchased the wrong shade or had an allergic reaction to the product.

But in the case that the makeup has been used or almost empty, Target may  not accept the return. You will need need to check with the store associate to know if the item qualifies.
